本書共10個(gè)單元，涵蓋了價(jià)值觀念、教育體系、家庭結(jié)構(gòu)、社會(huì)福利、職業(yè)道德及文化沖突與融合等內(nèi)容。每個(gè)單元安排了四部分內(nèi)容：文化背景介紹、電影簡介、聽說訓(xùn)練和課后實(shí)踐項(xiàng)目。本書旨在讓學(xué)生形象深入地了解美國文化的同時(shí)，通過加強(qiáng)聽、說練習(xí)全面提升學(xué)生的語言綜合運(yùn)用能力，適用于非英語專業(yè)高年級(jí)本科生和研究生的英語拓展課程。
PREFACE
Language and culture are undeniably intertwined. Language is a reflection of culture. The way we think and view the world is determined by the language we use. Understanding the target culture is not only the means but also the end for English learners in Chinese context.
To know what is on at the cinema is to know what is happening in the United States. Movies are reflections of the real life. They mirror different aspects of American society, including Americansreligious belief, value system and their behavior patterns. Seeing movies is a quick and lively way to understand American society. Its also an efficient way to improve English learnerslistening and speaking ability.
The book chooses ten cultural topics which are of the young language learnersconcern. Users of this book can have a profound understanding of the USA through the cultural introduction and the films provided in each chapter. The big and serious topics such as politics, economics and the judicial system are not included in this book.
The target readers of this book include college students and those who are curious for American culture. Each chapter is divided into four parts: cultural foods, movie introduction, listening & speaking activities and movie review & projects. The book can be used as a teaching material for college electives as well as a selflearning material.

劉秀梅，學(xué)科背景為英語語言文學(xué)，近年關(guān)注語言教學(xué)中的質(zhì)量評(píng)估及語言教師的職業(yè)發(fā)展；發(fā)表論文20語篇，主持過北京市教委教改項(xiàng)目2項(xiàng)、學(xué)校教改項(xiàng)目5校、其他橫向科研項(xiàng)目5項(xiàng)；出版教材兩部。王振英，外國語言學(xué)與應(yīng)用語言學(xué)碩士生導(dǎo)師、英語筆譯專業(yè)碩士生導(dǎo)師，研究方向?yàn)椋赫Z言學(xué)研究、語篇分析。主持"中國外語教育基金"課題、全國高校外語教學(xué)科研項(xiàng)目、中央高�；究蒲袠I(yè)務(wù)費(fèi)項(xiàng)目等多項(xiàng)課題。在核心及省級(jí)以上學(xué)術(shù)期刊上發(fā)表學(xué)術(shù)論文和教研論文30余篇；主編外語類教材2部，參編教材及教輔書籍10余部。陳曼，主要研究方向包括第二語言習(xí)得、語料庫語言學(xué)等，主要教授課程包括大學(xué)英語、英語專業(yè)高級(jí)閱讀、寫作、計(jì)算機(jī)輔助翻譯等課程，參編教材3本，發(fā)表論文數(shù)篇。馮新平，研究方向?yàn)橛⒄Z語言文學(xué)，現(xiàn)任職于中國人民解放軍陸軍防化學(xué)院基礎(chǔ)部語言與人文教研室，講授《大學(xué)英語》《軍事基礎(chǔ)英語》等課程，在報(bào)刊和雜志發(fā)表文章40余篇。
