本書每單元由下列六部分組成：PartITeachingGoals、PartIISuggestedTeachingPlan、PartIIILanguageFocus、PartIVSupplementaryExercises、PartVKeytoExercises、PartVITextTranslation。
《綜合教程》是系列教材的主干教程，本次編寫根據(jù)目前教學(xué)的實際情況，在篇幅上適當(dāng)減少，每冊設(shè)6單元。為充分反映時代發(fā)展和社會變化，約1／3的課文做了更換，新增了若干反映我國社會、文化和改革開放成就的單元和語篇。Pre-Reading Task和Comprehensive Language Practice兩個部分一律改用內(nèi)容豐富多彩的視頻，更便于增強(qiáng)學(xué)生聽說能力。全書按照文字難度調(diào)整了原有課文順序。對全書練習(xí)部分進(jìn)行了全面梳理，除保持原有特色外，改進(jìn)了部分課堂活動的內(nèi)容設(shè)計，適當(dāng)加強(qiáng)了深度、難度，同時注意培養(yǎng)學(xué)生思考和團(tuán)隊合作能力。
