本書由普林斯頓大學(xué)東亞系教授周質(zhì)平編選胡適自1914年到1961年前后的重要英文論文及演講28篇。全書橫向以主題分類, 可見胡適在這兩方面主要的論點和貢獻, 縱向以發(fā)表時間為序編排, 可見胡適于這兩方面思想發(fā)展的脈絡(luò)。本書以胡適發(fā)表時的原文影印本為底本, 經(jīng)仔細查證和勘誤, 旨在讓中外讀者更加了解胡適向世界介紹中國文化的傳統(tǒng)及其近現(xiàn)代發(fā)展方面發(fā)揮的作用。
